After a courageous battle with cancer, Evelyn Nielson, 70, of Pattulo Township, Ont., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003 at the Rainy River Hospital in Rainy River, Ont. with her family by her side.
Evelyn was born March 5, 1933 in Blue Township, Ont., to Carman and Mary Selman. As a young woman, she spent her summers waitressing at local tourist camps. There, she met Doug Nielson and they were married April 16, 1952.
Evelyn enjoyed gardening, curling, and fishing. She also was a member of the United Church Women. Evelyn truly enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
She leaves behind her husband, Doug; sons, Brian of Emo, Ont., Bruce and wife, Sandy, and Maury and wife, Cindy, all of Stratton, Ont., Roger of Baudette, Mn., and Lonny of Clearwater, Ont.; grandchildren, Tracy (Jeff) Brown, Kelly, Amy, Kevin, Krista, Katelyn, Tyler, and Carla Nielson, and Darren Lundgren; and great-grandchildren, Brandon Pratt and Hunter Brown.
Also surviving are her sister, Beatrice Medwechuk; and brothers, Leonard Selman and wife, Sally, and Irvine Selman.
Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Carman and Mary Selman; son, James; and brothers, Arnold and Howard.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Stratton Millennium Hall in Stratton, Ont. Rev. Barbara Miller officiated, with interment in Pattullo Cemetery in Pattullo Township.
Pallbearers were Carman Selman, Larry Medwechuk, Jack Medwechuk, Terry Nielson, Walter Hartnell, and Arthur Selman.
Honourary pallbearers were all of Evelyn’s family and friends.
