ROY HARRISON PLANT

Roy Harrison Plant passed away peacefully at the Atikokan General Hospital in Atikokan, Ont. on Nov. 28, 2006 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Roy was born Aug. 2, 1946 in Deloraine, Man. In 1958, he, with his family, moved to Atikokan, where he would remain for the better part of his life.
Roy graduated from Atikokan High School in 1966. He always will be remembered by his fellow peers as a strong and talented athlete in many sports.
Over the years, Roy worked at Steep Rock Mine, Boise Cascade, Tucker, Great Lakes, and Atikokan Forest Products. Most recently, he worked at AFP as a millwright.
Roy also devoted himself to countless machines that needed “an overhaul” or “just a little tuning.” He was dedicated to his passion for mechanics. He thrived on the knowledge and understanding of machinery in a way most people could not—a quality passed on to him from his father.
Throughout his career, his natural abilities enabled him to not only repair, but to design and construct many machines. It is said that Roy could “make a Detroit Diesel run better than when it was new.”
Roy loved life. He was strongly devoted to his family, friends, and the outdoors, whether it was fishing, hunting, camping, or just relaxing outside admiring his gardens.
He always knew how to get the best he could out of life.
Roy is survived by his wife of 38 years, Judy (nee Joskow); daughters, Tara (Kerry) Posselwhite and Darcy Plant; and granddaughter, Victoria Posselwhite.
He also is survived by his mother, Doris Plant; brother, Tim (Diane) Plant; sister, Susan (Wally) Munt; sisters-in-law, Margaret (Ed) Katona of Fort Frances, Ont., Yvonne (Eugene) Seckler of Regina, Sask., and Marianne (Patrick) Buick of Big Lake, Alta.; and brothers-in-law, Don (Gail) Joskow of Oshawa, Ont., and Tom (Sharon) Joskow of Kelowna, B.C.
Roy also had many nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by his beloved father, Alexander.
Roy will always be remembered by three words: “Take Five, Partner!”
How fortunate you were our father, your inspiration and guidance will always be with us.
You taught us right from wrong, and how to enjoy every day to its fullest.
You worked so hard to clothe and feed us, asking so very little in return.
You always had that special answer, story, or joke that always touched our hearts.
We will truly miss you, Dad. Thank you so much for all the wonderful memories.
