HERBERT MacMILLAN CRIDLAND

Herbert MacMillan Cridland passed away peacefully, with family by his side, on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003 after a short, but courageous, fight with cancer.
He was born Sept. 24, 1930 in Toronto, Ont., and was married on his birthday in 1956 to Theresa Marie (Shirley) Wilson. Shirley predeceased him on July 1, 1983.
Herb will be forever loved and remembered by his children, whom he was so proud of, Donna (Joan), Duane (Grace), Doug (Caron), Diane (Blair), Laura (Don), and Verna; and his grandchildren, Chez-Lyse, Bryce, Sydney, Jeff, Christine, Dana, Stacey, Hailey, Taryn, and Daneille, who adored their grandfather.
He also will be greatly missed by his sister, Donna (Alan) Janes of Toronto, Ont.; and his dear companion, Audrey Thomson.
Herb gave countless hours to many different organizations, including the Lions Club, minor hockey, and the Knights of Columbus, of which he was proud to be an honourary member.
His insurance career began in 1950 with the Dominion Group in Toronto. In 1963, he transferred to Thunder Bay, Ont., and in 1966 he moved to Fort Frances, a town that he came to love and dedicate his life to.
The staff at Gillons’ were not only his employees but his friends and became an extension of his family.
A celebration of Herb’s life will take place Monday, Oct. 6, 2003 at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fort Frances. A private interment will follow.
Pallbearers will be his 10 grandchildren.
Honourary pallbearers will be his friends whose lives he touched over the years.
At Herb’s request, a trust has been set up to benefit children’s activities in our community. Donations may be made to the Herb Cridland Memorial Sports Fund c/o the Royal Bank, Box 754, Fort Frances, Ont.
Sadness comes with the setting of the sun
