Gloria May Calder, 73, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Sunday, July 11, 2004 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances.
She was born April 8, 1933 in Fort Frances to Mabel and George Calder. She was one of five girls and three boys.
Gloria took nursing training in St. Boniface beginning in 1949 and graduated two years later. She worked in several places as a nurse, including Duluth, Mn., St. Louis, Ill., the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Man., and the International Falls Hospital in International Falls, Mn. for many years.
She retired after 30 years of nursing. Gloria was a very good nurse, and was loved by her patients for her kindness and compassion toward them.
Her greatest joy besides nursing was her nieces and nephews, whom she loved deeply.
Gloria was predeceased by her mother, Mabel, on Aug. 3, 1973; father, George, on Oct. 31, 1982; older sister, Vivian (Pud) Pepin on Nov. 8, 2002; younger sister, Norma Fults on Feb. 26, 2001; six brothers and sisters in infancy; and brothers-in-law, Theodore Bruyere and Brian Connor.
She leaves behind her brothers, Douglas and wife, Dixie, and family, George (Dempsey) and wife, Barb, and family, and Norman, all of Fort Frances, Ont.; sisters, Lillian (Lums) Bruyere of Atikokan, Ont. and family, and Georgina Connor of Fort Frances, Ont. and family.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 15, 2004 at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, with Fr. Francis Pudicherry officiating.
Cremation has taken place and interment will be held in the Fort Frances Cemetery at a later date.
The honourary pallbearers will be all of Gloria’s nieces and nephews.
