George Alan (Al) Lowe, 57, passed away as a result of a tragic accident in his home in Kincardine, Ont. on Sunday, July 11, 2004.
Al was the son of Alan W. Lowe and the late Kay Lowe.
Al was born in Fredericton, N.B. on June 20, 1947 and lived in London, Ont., Halifax, N.S., and Clinton, Ont. before moving with his family to Fort Frances, Ont. in 1962.
Al went through Fort Frances High School and was an excellent scholar. He was active in the student council, in gymnastics, and other sports, and also was valedictorian of his high school class.
He was employed by the paper mill for several summers, working on the Hallett, which he particularly liked.
Al attended McMaster University in Hamilton, Ont., where he received a degree in nuclear physics, then was employed by Ontario Hydro. He became a nuclear engineer at the nuclear generating complex in Kincardine.
He held positions in that firm for more than 30 years.
Al was well-konwn at the nuclear plant and in many aspects of the community. He was spoken of very highly—“a good man,” “a helpful boss,” “a friendly and worthwhile colleague,” and son on.
People commented on his willingness to help others and to go out of his way to lend a hand.
At his funeral service, the fun part of Al was brought up many times. Jokes, funny stories, outrageous pranks—things which made Al who he was.
Surviving are his father, Alan Lowe Sr.; Chris; his sister, Sally (Burlington) and husband, Dale, and family of San Diego, Calif.; his former wife, Karen (Peters); and daughters, Katrina and Lauren, whom he adored.
He will be sorely missed by the Peters and Lovisa families, along with many friends in Fort Frances, Kincardine, and elsewhere.
A luncheon will be held at La Place Rendez-Vous on Friday, July 23, 2004 at noon for friends and family to celebrate Al’s life.
For those wishing to honour Al’s memory with a donation, may we suggest the Canadian Cancer Society, Box 444, Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3M8.
