DORCAS MARTHA LOUISA KING

Peacefully, after a long illness, Dorcas Martha Louisa King (nee Hampshire), of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at her residence on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004.
Born in Rainy River, Ont. on Jan. 17, 1913 to Louisa (nee Daniels) and Daniel Hampshire, she moved to Fort Frances with her parents at the age of three months, where she resided and worked until her marriage to R. Cecil King on Oct. 24, 1947, when she moved to Emo, Ont.
She resided there until December, 1992, when she moved to Rainycrest.
In her early years, she worked for Dr. Hartry and as a bookkeeper for Dunwoody, Nicholl and Saul.
She was a lifelong member of the Anglican Church of Canada, first in Fort Frances and then in Emo, a lifetime member of the Anglican Church Women, the Emo Library board, and the Carpenters Women’s Institute.
She also was secretary for the Carpenter #2 School Board for a number of years.
She is survived by her daughter, Elaine James (Bruce) of Atikokan, Ont., and her son, Larry (Lois) of Crozier, Ont.; seven grandchildren, Daniel, Stephen and Brian James, Jason (Sherri), Reginald (Bobbi-Jo), and Donald King, and Gina (John) Pillon; and nine great-grandchildren, Matthew, Jasmyne, Nathaniel, Tessa, Allison, Austin, Haley, Shelby, and Cheyenne.
Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Cecilia McComb of Emo, Ont., and Mrs. Shirley King of Fort Frances, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Daniel and Louisa Hampshire; husband, R. Cecil King; sister, Jean Sybasko; and brother, Walter.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004 at 3 p.m. at St. George’s Anglican Church in Emo, Ont., with Rev. Eileen Bragg officiating.
Friends visited one half-hour prior to the service.
Interment will take place at the Emo Cemetery at a later date.
