Helen Marie Shepard, 90, of Couchiching First Nation, Ont., passed away Monday, Feb. 14, 2005 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
She was born Feb. 8, 1915 at Rainy Lake, Ont.
Helen enjoyed quilting and crocheting. She also was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and was the oldest member of Couchiching First Nation.
She is survived by her four children, Elsie (Les) Murray of Portland, Ore., Joseph (Mary) Natawence of Stanjicoming First Nation, and Eleanor (Val) Perrault and Jackie (Don Roach) Jourdain, all of Couchiching First Nation.
Also surviving are 17 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Helen was united in marriage to John Shepard, who predeceased her. She also was predeceased by her parents, Narcisse and Agnes Jourdain; sisters, Philomene Klyne, Rita Tolgoni, Clara Councillor, Rosette Perrault, Madeline Johnson, Cecile Ames, Mariah Brown, Anna Kise, and Roseanne Linklater; and brothers, Sam Jourdain and Moses Jourdain.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 18, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Fr. Francis Pudicherry will officiate, with interment in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.
A funeral wake will be held Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005 from 4 p.m. at the Couchiching multi-use facility. Vigil prayers will be held at 7 p.m., with Deacon Elmer Mainville and Gilbert Smith officiating.
The pallbearers will be Todd Morrisseau, Blaine Perrault, Val Perrault Jr., Angus Jourdain, Jeff Bruyere, Richard White, and Robert Moyer.
