Claude Vincent

Claude Vincent Flanagan passed away at his residence, Central Park Lodge in Brandon, Man., on Thursday, April 21, 2005.
Claude was born May 12, 1911 in Fort Frances, Ont., where he grew up and received his education at the local elementary and high schools.
He worked at several jobs in Fort Frances until he accepted a position at the local paper mill in 1935, where he continued to work until retirement in 1975.
Claude was predeceased by his first wife, the former Pearl Papinan, in 1983 after 46 years of marriage.
He also was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Gertrude; sister Eileen; brother, John and sister-in-law, Adina, of Burlington, Ont.; and four half-brothers, Fred, Harry, Frank, and Ernie Woods.
Claude had moved to Brandon in 1988 following his marriage to Iola Landles, whom he met when they were members of a group touring Great Britain and Ireland.
Claude is survived by his wife, Iola; three step-daughters, Gail (Ed) Sanderson, Marilyn (Jim) Brooks, and Diane (John) Nixon; step-grandchildren, Bill (Charlotte) Baptie of Mississauga, Ont., Tom (Kathie) Baptie of Raleigh, N.C., Karen (Danny) Nicholls of Winnipeg, Man., Corrie Clearwater (Chris Sutherland) of Etobicoke, Ont., and Scott Brooks (Carol Henke) of Calgary, Alta.
He was Great-Grandpa Claude to Quinn, Cole, and Seth Nicholls, Samantha and Sarah Baptie, Andy and Maggie Sutherland, and Ryan and Tanner Anderson.
Nieces Donna (Robert) Terry and Sharon (Ken) Johns and nephew Richard Flanagan also survive Claude.
Claude was proud of his Irish ancestry and was a loyal supporter of the Conservative Party for all of his adult years. He also was a life-member of the Elks Lodge of Fort Frances.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Central Park Lodge, especially the dedicated third-floor members, for their compassionate care Claude received during his four-and-a-half years as a resident of that facility.
Cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will be held.
