ETHEL FRANCIS CARRUTHERS

It is with deepest sympathy that the family of the late Ethel Francis Carruthers announce her passing on July 30, 2005 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Man.
Ethel was born Aug. 5, 1920 and was raised and educated in Chapple Municipality. She married George Albert Meyers in 1941 and lived in the Emo area for many years before settling in Atikokan with her three children in 1953.
Ethel cooked at Quetico Centre, the Caland Guest House, and the Steep Rock Guest House, in addition to many restaurants and tourist camps in the Rainy River District.
On March 30, 1957, Ethel married James Edwin Carruthers. Together, they built their home in Atikokan and their cabin at Factor Lake. Ethel enjoyed the outdoors . . . fishing, gardening, and entertaining family and friends.
In 2000, Ethel moved to Winnipeg to be close to her daughter.
Ethel is survived by her son, Don (Joyce) Meyers of Emo, and grandchildren, Pam (Marvin) Van Heyst and Richard Peri; daughter, Marion (Louie) Dufault of Winnipeg, and grandchildren, Lisa (Don) Greenberg and Brent (Lori) Dufault; daughter-in-law, Trudy Dyson of Nanaimo, B.C. and grandson, Cameron Meyers, and great-grandchildren, Jenaya and Noah Van Heyst, Aaron Greenberg, and Alexa Dufault.
Also surviving is her sister, Maria Gibson, of Emo; brother, James Gibson of Atikokan; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ethel was predeceased by her husband, Jim, in1987; son, Gordon in1970; grandson, Duane in 2003; parents, John and Maria Gibson; four sisters, Agnes Meyers, Mina Meyers, Beatrice Sullivan, and Margaret Gibson and three brothers, Wilfred, Norman, and Harold Gibson.
Cremation has taken place, with a graveside service conducted at the Little Falls Cemetery in Atikokan, on Friday, Aug. 5, 2005.
In memoriam donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
