In Memory of Lois Marie Cadieux
Lois Marie Cadieux, born in Nashville, TN on July 16, 1917 died August 4, 2006 in Killeen, TX. She is preceded in death by her husband Leonard William Cadieux, her parents: Ada Featherstone Maxey and Joseph Teal Maxey, her daughter Marie L’Jean Cadieux and her great granddaughter Jacquline Marie Hughes. Lois was a world traveler; however her favorite place will remain Canada, especially Fort Frances, Ontario. She and her husband Leonard moved to Nestor Falls in 1945 purchased the fi shing and hunting resort Canadian Haven. Later in 1958, Lois and Leonard purchased Clark Robertson’s Friendly Acres and Mill Cabins which they opened as Holiday Village and Gourmet House on Rainy Lake where they continued to serve the tourists until the late 1980’s. Over the years Lois was active in the community with the Business and Professional Women’s Club, Fort Frances Rate Payers Association, Rainycrest Board of Management and served as a city council member for eight years. Below is a poem she wrote before moving to Florida:
About Time
When the only folks you’ll really miss
Are your doctor, your accountant,
And your friendly handyman,
It’s time to think of leaving
When you get the inclination,
In plain language—while you can!
I’ll look back and remember
The good times and the bad,
The joyful years we spent,
But now there’s only me, you see
And while I love you, Canada
I know it’s time I went.
It’s better to part company,
While I regret to leave,
Than to wait like a jilted lover
With my heart upon my sleeve,
Looking backward sadly
As in self-pity, I grieve.
And so I’ll say farewell to all
The lakes and woodland streams
I cherished beyond measure
To friends long gone,
And work I’ve done,
Now just memories to treasure.
Don’t weep for me, because you see,
There are other joys waiting,
Bright days at sea, time to be free
Worlds I’ll now have time to roam
But when I pause and relive my past,
I’ll always remember my Canadian home.
She is survived by her daughter Terrill Jane Enyeart, Killeen, TX; her son Leonard William Cadieux Jr. and his wife Cindy, St. Charles, MO; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
