AGNES GEORGE

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Agnes George, age 97 years of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, formerly of 1019 Third St. E., Fort Frances, who passed away at her residence on Friday, July 28, 2006 with her family by her side.
She was born on August 14, 1908 at Black Point, Min. to the late Peter and Marie Calder. Agnes was the sixth child to Peter and Marie.
In the 1920’s her family built a big log home on Boom Island near the Cascades on Rainy Lake which became their winter home, while living in Fort Frances during the summers.
Agnes attended Robert Moore School in Fort Frances and also received tutoring while living at the lake. During her earlier years, she helped her father commercially fish in the area.
She met Edward George on July 4, 1930 and they were later united in marriage. From Fort Frances, the family moved to Rocky Inlet where they resided for a time. Her husband Edward predeceased her in February of 1974. Agnes loved playing goalie for her grandchildren in her younger years, and through out her life liked to play Bingo and watch golf. She also loved playing piano and listening to fiddle and country music.
Agnes was a long-time member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and also a CWL member.
She was a doctor to all of her family over the years. Her family also remembers her love of cooking and providing large meals on family get-togethers.
Agnes also had a special relationship with her grandson Chris, and will be missed dearly by all of her family and friends that knew her.
Agnes helped to achieve her generation’s life-long dream of having a street named “Calder Drive” after the family.
She was predeceased by her parents Peter and Marie Calder; her husband Edward George in 1974; three daughters Emma, Hannah and Louise; one son Robert in 1972; four brothers George, Lute, Wilfred and Robert; and three sisters Jane, Annie and Margurite.
Agnes is survived by her seven children, Frances and husband Henry Nelson of Devlin, Ont. Herb George and wife Jennie, Joe George and wife Phyllis, John George and wife Dylinda, and Wayne George all of Fort Frances, Ont., Patricia of Gatineau, Que., and Jim George and wife Sherry of Fort Frances, Ont.; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law Margaret (Muggins) George of Fort Frances, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances. Father Francis Pudicherry and Deacon Elmer Mainville officiated with interment in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery in Couchiching First Nation, Ontario.
Visitation was held Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Parish prayers were offered at 7:30 p.m. led by Deacon Elmer Mainville
Active pallbearers were Brad George, Wade Nelson, Karl George, Neil George, Travis George, Larry George, Chris George, and Bob George.
Honourary pallbearers were Joyce and Bob LaFreniere, Rose Bird, Beatrice Magel, Donna Bird, Peggy and Buddy Loyie and Barb Chrysler.
