JOHN ELROY DOUGLAS

John Elroy Douglas passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005.
He was born Jan. 22, 1925 in Emo, Ont. to William and Margaret Douglas. He attended public school in Emo and then worked on farms and different jobs until Nov. 11, 1942, when he was sworn into the Canadian Army.
While in the army, he served in England, North Africa and Italy. In Italy, he was wounded and hospitalized for several months. He then was sent back to Canada, where he was honourably discharged, returning to Emo.
There was only one town that he loved all his life and that town was Emo.
While in Emo, he married Hazel Johnson in 1947. They had one son, Ricky, and also raised Hazel’s two sons, Vernal and Donald Johnson.
He was employed with the Department of Highways (Ontario) for 15 years. Later, he moved to the west but returned to Emo once again.
He was predeceased by his mother on Oct. 20, 1958; his father on Dec. 23, 1992; his son, Ricky, on Aug. 15, 1990; his stepson, Vernal, in 1993; his wife, Hazel, on May 23, 2001; and his sister, Lucille, on Aug. 14, 2005.
He is survived by one brother, Sterling and wife, Fern; sister, Jean Miller; and friend, Shirley King and family of Fort Frances, Ont.
Cremation has taken place.
At his request, there will be no funeral. A graveside service will be held at the cemetery in Emo in the spring.
