August Friedrich (Fred) Burck, formerly of Fort Frances, Ont., finally lost his five-year fight for life against cancer, pulmonary disease, and heart disease on Friday, Dec. 9, 2005 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Hamilton, Ont. in his 85th year.
He was the beloved husband of Hulda Schritt and dear father of Ursula (Ian) Downer; loving Opa of Kim (Regis) Lemke and Amber Downer; as well as cherished Grand Opa of Jacob and Brandon Lemke.
He was predeceased by his mother, Maria Benedum, and father, Friedrich Burck of Germany.
Fred worked for Ziess Ikon before immigrating to Winnipeg, Man. in 1952. Finally settling in Fort Frances, Fred worked in many functions at La Verendrye General Hospital, culminating his career in the position of Director of Purchasing and then a brief stint as a member of the board after his retirement.
Fred and Hulda moved to the Hamilton area four years ago to be closer to their daughter and her family. His jovial nature and sense of humour will be sorely missed by all of his friends, old and new.
