LOUIS DAVID FARAGO

It is with deep sadness that the family of Louis David Farago announces his passing, which occurred Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005 in Wawa, Ont.
Lou was born during the winter of 1915 in a farmhouse built from the prairie sod near Plunkett, Sask. As a boy, Lou, a devoted student, rode bareback on his horse over the prairies in order to get to the one-room schoolhouse where he was prepared for his future education, which took place in Saskatoon at the University of Saskatchewan.
Lou enjoyed a long and distinguished career in education as both a teacher and principal, beginning in 1933 in rural Saskatchewan and ending with his retirement from Fort Frances High School in 1977, where he had served since 1959.
Former students of Lou’s fondly recall this dedicated teacher’s flamboyant physics demonstrations, his enthusiasm as a coach, and the many plays and operettas that he directed during his career. As a caring professional, he touched many lives.
Always a competitive athlete, Lou loved baseball, hockey, wrestling, cross-country skiing, curling, and tennis. He also was known for his oil paintings and his deep appreciation of literature and poetry.
Lou was a man with a strong sense of community who contributed many volunteer hours through his work with various service clubs and charities. A dedicated socialist, Lou worked for the CCF from its inception in Saskatchewan and later always could be counted on by the NDP.
Lou also was an active contributing member of Knox United Church in Fort Frances for more than 40 years.
Predeceased by Vera, his loving wife of 62 years, Lou’s constant love and support will be most deeply missed by his immediate family, including daughter, Connie Rafferty (Jack) of North Carolina, along with her children, Mark Whiteside, Robin Danis, and Jackie Rafferty, as well as son, David Farago (Mary) and their daughter, Emma, of Wawa, Ont.
