With deep sadness, the Comegan and Bird families announce the passing of our beloved Caine on June 15, 2006. He was, and always will be, our son, brother, nephew, grandson, cousin, and friend.
Caine was born to James and Linda Comegan on March 3, 1990 in Winnipeg, Man.
Fond memories of Caine come to mind when he was a cute baby boy with his big brown “goo-goo” eyes and perfectly round cheeks. His dashing smile could melt anyone’s heart.
He leaves his brothers and sisters, Jeff Adams, Tyler Archie, James Comegan Jr., and Stacy, Jenna, and Janaye Comegan; and uncles and aunts, Agnes, Marie, Albert, Stanley, Elizabeth, Bernadine, Noel, Brenda, Audrey, and Rhonda Comegan, Gary, Clifford, and Patsy Tuesday, and Uncle Paul Bird.
He was predeceased by grandparents, James and Hannah Morrison-Comegan; “Grandpa Johnny Comegan”; Aunty Lorraine Bird; Aunties, Starr and Debra Comegan; Uncles, Carl Tuesday Sr., and Ronnie and Larry Comegan; grandparents, James and Lorette White-Bird; and grand uncles, Richard, Raymond, and Joe Bird, and Jimmy and Cecil White.
He attended Rainy River High School and presently was finishing his Grade 10.
Caine was a remarkable young person with courage, strength of mind, and character. He was blessed with a great heart and constantly made his family proud in whatever he put his mind to. He had a great work ethic, with a get up and go attitude.
Caine learned how to commercial fish at a young age by going with his Dad out in Lake of the Woods. This tradition was passed from his grandfathers, great-grandfathers, and great-great-grandfathers.
Caine always kept busy, he learned from his Mom how to grow a garden. His first harvest as a young boy was a field of cucumbers.
He also loved to hit golf balls into the river, biking on the rez, cooking and barbecuing. His family nicknames were “Coiny,” “Newborn,” “Goo goo,” and 7lbs., 3ozs.”
He will be missed and fondly remembered by his cousins, Wesley, Vera, Verna, Dennis, Pam, Chris, and Yvette Big George, Garnet; Sean, Nada, Lori (Isaac), and Darnell Comegan (Colleen); Kari and Kori Comegan; David Arsenault and Natalie Comegan-Clark; Jason and Michelle Skergit; Giovanna Copenace, Brittany Comegan, Jasmine Smith, Skyler Comegan, and Trish and Shannon Allen; Tannis and Freddy Comegan-Archie; Ross, Pierre, Gloria, and Angie Tuesday; Moke, Carl Jr., Virginia, and Kevin Tuesday; Cliff Jr., Shelley, Sherry, and Clifton Tuesday; Albert Jr., Barry, Farrell, and Harvey Mandamin, and Natasha and CD Kelly; Russell Jr. and Reyna Ferris, and Carlen Ronke; Robert Bird, (Stephanie Trout) Verlin, Kyra, Renae, Britanny, and Nicholas; and other numerous relatives.
Traditional funeral services were held at the Big Grassy First Nation Community Hall on Friday June 23, 2006, followed by burial at the Big Grassy First Nation cemetery.
Pallbearers were friends and relatives of Caine.
Gichi Meegwetch to friends, relatives, and police crews from nearby and surrounding communities who helped us through this difficult time. Peace to all.
