WESLEY LLOYD (WES) JOHNSON

Wesley Lloyd (Wes) Johnson, 82, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at his residence on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006.
Wes was born Oct. 29, 1923 in Blue Township, Ont. to the late August and Lilah Johnson.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in Canada and the United Kingdom. He had served from October, 1942 until his discharge in March, 1946 with the Winnipeg Rifles Division of the Royal Canadian Army.
He also was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 in Fort Frances.
He had worked from 1950-61 with the Canadian National Railway, the Bridge Builders in Rainy River. He also had worked in the local paper mill for 26 years until he retired in 1987.
Wes enjoyed socializing with his family and many friends, but most important was spending time with his grandchildren.
Wes was united in marriage on Dec. 18, 1948 to the former Dulcie May Ogier, who predeceased him on June 24, 2002. He also was predeceased by his daughter, Dorothy Heyens.
Left to cherish his memory are his five children, Alice Johnson and John (Patti) Johnson, all of Fort Frances, Ont., Brenda (Charlie) Gaetz of Great Falls, Man., and Bruce (Janice) Johnson and Jennifer (Pat) Langtry, all of Fort Frances, Ont.
Also surviving are his grandchildren, Pam (Tony) King, Melanie (Todd) French, Jodi (Jason) Easton, Sandi Johnson, Jefferey, Chris, and April Heyens, Steven Gaetz, Lindsay Johnson, and Kelsey Langtry; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Wilfred Johnson of Gameland, Ont, Charlie (Ilene) Johnson of Sleeman, Ont., and Roy (Jocelyn) Johnson of Redditt, Ont.; sisters, Grace Proteau of Rainy River, Ont., Ruth Rogoza of Fort Frances, Ont., and Shirley (Roy) Gadd of London, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Wes’ life will be held Monday, Jan. 16, 2006 at 11 a.m at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Rainycrest Chaplain John Chornabay officiating.
The Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 “Color Party” will perform its Legion Tribute following the service.
The honourary pallbearers will be Wes’ grandchildren, Pam King, Melanie French, Jodi Easton, Sandi Johnson, Jefferey, Chris, and April Heyens, Steven Gaetz, Lindsay Johnson, and Kelsey Langtry.
Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at the Blue Township Cemetery at a later date.
