It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Mr. Donald Earl Martin, formerly of Nipigon, Ont. on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 with his family by his side in St. Joseph’s Care Group at the age of 72 years.
Don was born and raised in the Fort Frances, Ont. area. In his younger years, he worked in various bush camps and later found employment with Ontario Hydro for 39 years.
Upon his retirement, he owned and operated Plaza Theatre in Nipigon. He also served on various committees and was a past Master for Superior Lodge #672.
He loved spending time at his camp on Lake Elizabeth, and enjoyed fishing, gardening, and, most of all, spending quality time with his family. He was a very loving, caring, compassionate, and giving individual who took pride in everything he did.
Don will be sadly missed by Dianne, his loving wife of 45 years; son, Bruce Martin (Mary), and grandchildren, Michael, Sonnie, and Brittany; daughter, Beverly Desserre (Cam Burgess), and grandchildren, Amber (Rick), Ashlee, and Marcie, and great-granddaughter, Abigayle; daughter, Cheryl Shwetz (Fred); and son, Christopher Martin.
He also is survived by his mother, Eileen Martin; brothers, Lyle (Betty) Martin, Rod (Marg) Martin, and Frank (Renee) Martin; sister, Gerry (Ed) Armstrong; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was predeceased by his father, Alexander Martin; brother, Art Martin; grandson, Christopher Scott; and father- and mother-in-law, William and Frances Robinson.
A memorial service and reception was held at Jenkens Funeral Home on Friday, June 2, 2006 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Kent Gibbons officiating.
Interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens followed.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation would be appreciated.
