KATHLEEN ISABEL WHALEN

Kathleen Isabel Whalen passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2006.
She had been born Oct. 9, 1908 in La Vallee, Ont, where she grew up as a child and she made many good friends.
She later went to North Bay Teachers College, where she graduated and then returned to Blackhawk, Ont. She enjoyed teaching the children there; many of whom became good friends in later years.
While there, she met Joe and married in 1937. They then moved and built a tourist camp out of logs on Clearwater Lake. She and Joe spent many years of hard work, but doing what they loved.
She always was willing to share many good stories about their life at camp; again many good friends were made there. One of her favourite activities in the early years was to go off on foot with Joe over the ice to help him with his trapping—sometimes sleeping under a lean-to made of pine boughs, next to an open fire, watching the stars and listening to the howl of the wolves.
Bridge, curling, and gardening were other things she loved to do. The best parts of these were the many friends she made.
She also was very active as a member of the Knox United Church women’s group in Fort Frances, Ont., but the things she loved most were her times with her family.
Kathleen is survived by one sister, Belle (Ed) Lofgren; her daughter, Linda (Bruce) Stewart; grandchildren, Robert, William and wife, Cheryl, Ryan, Derek and wife, Elvira, Sean and wife, Rochelle, and Shannon and husband, Trevor; and great-grandchildren, Kailey, Lisha, Megan, Nicole, a new baby on the way in May, Cassidy, and Braydon.
She also is survived by many much-loved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; sisters-in-law, Genevieve Essary, Eileen Armstrong, and Evelyn Whalen; and brother-in-law, Tony O’Neil.
She was predeceased by her parents, George and Flora Belle McTavish; husband, Joe; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack (Leah), George (Jessie), Dick (Madeline), and Stuart; and sisters and brothers-in-laws, Evelyn (Boyo) Hemmens, Flora (Harry) Evans, Eileen (Stan) Sykes, and Jean O’Neil.
The family would like to thank all the staff at LVGH, St. Andrews Ward, CCU, ER, Rainycrest, Dr. E. Spencer, Dr. Nugent, and Dr. Moorhouse for the excellent care she received while being in their care.
At Kathleen’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service.

Like whispering grains of sand blowing in the wind
Your gentle ways have guided me through all the tears and grins.
Our walks and talks and lots of hugs have taught me truth and wisdom
