Debra Fern (Debbie) Carlson, 54, of 726 Nelson St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away with her family by her side on Sunday, May 13, 2007 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
Debbie was born Feb. 8, 1953 in Fort Frances to Signor (Sig) and Jean Pearson. She completed high school in Fort Frances, and later graduated from Nursing School with her R.P.N.
On Nov. 9, 1974, she was united in marriage to Gerald Carlson.
From Fort Frances, they moved to Kenora, Ont., where Debbie worked for five years at Lake of the Woods District Hospital. The family later returned to Fort Frances, where Debbie worked for a few years at La Verendrye General Hospital, and then at Rainycrest Home for the Aged for the past 25 years.
Debbie also worked casually as a custodian for the Rainy River District School Board for the last few years.
Debbie was the happiest outdoors; whether it was camping, fishing, or working in her yard with family and friends always close by. She was a caring person whose laughter and kind manner was a comfort to all she met.
Debbie is survived by her husband, Gerald Carlson of Fort Frances, Ont.; three children, Shauna-Leigh Carlson and Armand Jourdain of Fort Frances, Ont., Travis Carlson and Corrine James of Edmonton, Alta., and Jaime-Lynn Carlson and David Brotherston of Oakville, Ont.; and one grandson, Ethan Carlson-Jourdain.
She also is survived by her parents, Signor (Sig) and Jean Pearson; sisters, Cathy and husband, Jerry Wilson, and Patti Pearson, all of Fort Frances, Ont.; brother, Douglas Pearson of Alberton, Ont.; brothers-in-law, Brian and wife, Anna, and Brad and wife, Linda, all of International Falls, Mn.; father-in-law, Gerald and Margaret Carlson of Kenora, Ont., and mother-in-law, Val Hnybida of Fort Frances, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation will take place at Rainy River Cremation Service in International Falls.
Friends may visit with family Wednesday, May 16, 2007 from 7-9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
A celebration of Debbie’s life will be held Thursday, May 17, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Knox United Church in Fort Frances, with Rev. Jill Warner officiating.
Interment will take place in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances at a later date.
The honourary pallbearers will be Gail Johnstone, Gail McTavish, Barb Jewell, Linda Wilson, Leslie Bell, Jane Hayes, Sis Steele, Betty Dodge, and Karyn Haney-Slusarchuk.
