Could the newspaper you’re holding be worth $1000? It could if you win the Ontario Community Newspaper’s “This old newspaper!?” Reader Contest.
The Fort Frances Times has partnered with the OCNA to open the contest up to Rainy River District residents. All you need to do is up-cycle old newspapers into something amazing and new. The possibilities are endless, and only limited by your creativity – clothing, art, furniture. If it can be made from newspapers, it can be entered to win.
Are you up for the challenge? Put on your creative hat (or make one from old newspapers) and enter, for your chance to win the OCNA provincial prize of $1,000.
There are three categories:
- Open
- Junior under 12
- Family
The rules are simple:
- Participants must repurpose newspaper into something creative and/or functional (anything goes – ballgown, basket, lampshade) and submit it to their local community newspaper. Note: While a piece created 100 per cent of newspaper is ideal, we recognize that other materials may be necessary for framework and stability. Therefore, a piece MUST consist of at least 70 per cent recycled newspaper. Of course, it must also be appropriate for the public to admire.
- In addition to a brief description about the creation, you must submit a series of photos or videos taken during the construction process to show how the piece was developed.
- The Times will submit each participant’s work to the OCNA for consideration in the provincial contest.
- The contest will then go live online, for readers across Ontario to view and vote for their favourite. The piece with the most votes will win.
So, stop tossing those newspapers in the recycling bin and repurpose them for the “This old Newspaper!?” Reader Contest. Bring your submissions to the Fort Frances Times office at 116 First Street East, in Fort Frances, by 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 27 for your chance to enter.
