Dear editor,
I am thankful that you printed so many fine letters in regard to the Gay Pride celebration, and letters which express a different view. Any group in our towns may hold a celebration and freely enjoy themselves. If we do not fly their flag, it does not mean we don’t love them. There are many people who don’t wear pink on Bully Day, and they are not bullies.
All my life I have known people of different cultures and lifestyles, but it was only when one tried to force the other to believe their way, that division came and the relationship fell apart. There are many people in this area with differing views of life and cultures which challenge one another, but most have found a way that we can all just be who we are and still relate and live peaceably as neighbors.
Our town councils and Reeves are tasked with keeping the roads paved and clean water flowing, not monitoring and correcting the townspeople’s ideology according to the wishes of a few. I am glad that our community leaders fly NO flags. It works. It is not the function of our town government to promote any ideology.
I hope that on Saturday, the people can just simply enjoy their parade. The idea of an ‘ambush’ can easily arouse feelings of defensiveness and division, and who wants that? ALL our lives are precious in the sight of God. Most often, people just want to be good neighbours, if you let them be.
