Elementary and secondary teachers from all four major unions took to the streets on Friday in a province-wide strike. Teachers were joined by parents, students, citizens and CUPE members, who were all walking to protest cuts to education by the provincial government. At issue, are class sizes, violence in the classroom, compensation, special education funding, and the Kindergarten staffing model. The next action was to be a walk-out by Catholic elementary teachers in the Northwest Catholic District School Board, scheduled for Monday, Feb. 24. However, the union announced on Friday, Feb. 21 that the action has been cancelled.
