It was nearly a clean sweep for the Muskie court sport teams in their NorWOSSA home-openers on Tuesday afternoon against the visiting Sioux Lookout Warriors.
In boys’ volleyball action, the Muskie seniors (1-1) picked up their first win of the season with a 2-1 win over the Warriors.
The set scores were 25-21, 23-25, and 25-21.
Regular season NorWOSSA volleyball matches are now only a best-of-three, with the third set still being played regardless of the score.
In junior action, the Muskies (1-1) suffered their first loss of the season with a 2-1 loss to Sioux Lookout.
The set scores were 25-22, 16-25, and 20-25.
In girls’ basketball action, the Muskie seniors improved to 2-0 with a 49-1 rout of the Warriors.
The Warriors’ lone point came on a free-throw from a last-second Muskie foul in the fourth quarter.
Alina Eldridge led all scorers with 11 points while Keisha DeBungie and Aurora Hutton added six each.
Janissa Judson chipped in five points while Simone Payne, Grace Petsnick, Rachel Anderson, and Jamie Spencer all tallied four.
Joanna Empey notched three points while Bella Ward added a basket to round out the offence.
The Muskie juniors also improved to 2-0 with a 53-33 romp over Sioux Lookout.
Tatum Glowasky led the way offensively for the black-and-gold with an 18-point performance while Grace Smith chipped in 10 points.
Ayiana Gagne netted eight points, with Joyce Wu and Heaven States each potting six points and Serena Teeple and Emma Yerxa each adding a basket.
All four Muskie court sport teams were slated to resume NorWOSSA action this afternoon against the host Dryden Eagles, with the scores not known as of press time.
Both Muskie volleyball squads then will be in action at the Kenora Invitational Tournament on Friday and Saturday, which is being co-hosted by the Broncos and St. Thomas Aquinas Saints.
