An abundance of early interest in the new Rainy Lake Gymnastics Academy has the club excited for its future.
The RLGA held its first registration night last Tuesday at the Fort Frances GM office here, with just over 200 athletes signing up for its programs.
“We were amazed at the showing of support at the registration [Tuesday] night,” enthused RLGA director Stephanie Mann.
“We are thankful for the patience from the registrants and their families for standing outside in the cold and rain while they were waiting in line to register!
“It was wonderful to see the kids share their excitement for the sport when we spoke with some of them,” she added.
“The folks at Fort Frances GM were so helpful and encouraging and we are extremely grateful for their support.”
The RLGA plans on starting its programs on Oct. 1, which will be held in the auditorium of the Memorial Sports Centre.
With all the early interest, the club also is planning on holding a second registration night but a date for that hasn’t been confirmed yet.
“We will be having a second registration for those classes that did not fill up last night. We will be doing it in collaboration with a few of the other clubs in town who will have registration available as well,” explained Mann.
“That date hasn’t been firmed up yet, but we will certainly share that information when it becomes available.”
In the meantime, over the next month or so the RLGA will be receiving the gymnastics equipment it ordered and working on getting it all ready for its programs come October.
“We will be setting up, taking down, and storing our equipment numerous times to ensure we are ready for the weekly setup and takedown that is required,” Mann remarked.
“We will also be having our coaches come together to review the lesson plans that have been developed, participate in team building, and sort out any kinks that we may find along the way.
“We are thrilled with the turn out [Tuesday] night and we are hopeful we can fill up the remaining classes,” she added.
“The board, along with Fort Frances GM, are looking forward to seeing the gymnastics club come to life and the registration has been a very encouraging start to this venture for the community!”
