Interlibrary loan has returned partially to libraries in Ontario.
It has been announced that Northern Ontario libraries will continue to receive the mailing rebate in 2019. As such, the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre will resume limited interlibrary loan services effective immediately.
A great deal of uncertainty remains regarding the future of interlibrary loans in Ontario, particularly the participation of Southern libraries. Interlibrary loan works as system, when it works for everyone.
As it stands now, the system is only working for a few. The impact of the lack of participation or only partial participation of Southern libraries is not yet clear.
The staff of the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre promise to work to mitigate the impact of service changes to the community, however there may be further service changes and disruptions as further announcements are made.
