The Sight & Sound Wolves had a howling good night offensively last Thursday.
Sight & Sound used a pair of homeruns in the second inning as part of a four-run frame and never looked back as they cruised to a 14-3 romp over Windey’s Warriors in Rainy River District Fastball League action at VanJura.
After ace starting pitcher John Desaulniers opened the game with a pair of strikeouts of the Warriors’ hitters, Aaron Caul gave him support in the bottom of the first with an RBI single to open the scoring for the Wolves (2-2).
Windey’s (2-2) came back to tie it in the second, however, getting back-to-back doubles off Desaulniers to lead off the frame.
The whole game changed in the bottom half, as the Wolves hit a solo blast and a deep three-run shot to centre off Warriors’ starter Rob McGinnis as the Wolves forged ahead 5-1.
Desaulniers took over from there and struck out the side in the top of the third to quickly get the Wolves back on the bats.
Duane Carlson smacked an RBI single before another double later in the frame made it a 7-1 lead.
The Wolves padded their cushion in the fourth, getting a run on a groundout before Carlson cranked a three-run bomb to deep left for his first big fly of the season to push it to 11-1.
The Warriors trimmed it to 11-2 in the fifth after a misplay on a pop fly in right field and a poor throw to third allowed the Windey’s batter to make it all the way home.
Caul then smoked an RBI double in the bottom half to make it 12-2 for Sight & Sound.
A sacrifice fly by the Warriors trimmed the deficit to 12-3 in the sixth but the Wolves struck back in the bottom half with an RBI double from Carlson and a sac fly by Nick Wepruk to round out the scoring.
Desaulniers then struck out three batters, while also plunking one, to preserve Sight & Sound’s win in the seventh as part of a complete game effort.
He finished the game allowing just three runs on five hits and a walk while also accumulating 13 strikeouts.
McGinnis took the loss for the Warriors, allowing five runs in the two innings he pitched.
In other games last Thursday, the Dawson Tigers nabbed their third-straight win as they edged the Sabaskong Lakers 10-8.
Mitch Seguin homered while Carl Big George Jr. earned the win for the Tigers (3-1).
James Yerxa suffered the loss for the Lakers (1-3).
Vaughan Wilson and Brandon Pratt both clubbed dingers to pace the Barwick Blue Knights to a 15-5 thrashing of the Sabaskong Goldeneyes.
Cecil Copenace also went deep for the Goldeneyes.
Tanner Smith earned the win for Barwick (3-1) while Darryl Beacham was tagged with the loss for the Goldeneyes (1-3).
The Fort Frances Braves (3-0) at Northwest Bay Chieftains (0-3) game was postponed and will be made up tomorrow night.
The results of the Stratton Eagles at Rainy River Royals and Manitou Thunderbirds at Couchiching Raiders games were unconfirmed as of press time.
Last night’s games, the results of which weren’t known as of press time, pitted the Eagles against the Lakers, the Royals against the Blue Knights, while the Goldeneyes traveled to Pinewood to take on Dawson, the Braves welcomed the Raiders, the Warriors hosted the Thunderbirds, and the Chieftains squared off against the Wolves.
Tomorrow and next Tuesday (June 4) will serve as make-up nights, with league play to resume on June 6.
