Come one, come all—the door to the kitchen is always open.
That is, to Tess’s Kitchen, the newest business in town.
Tess and Robert Coish opened their shop’s doors last week and ever since the “Open” sign—which hangs in the window—flickered on, they have been flooded with orders.
“The community response has been great,” said Tess. “They are keeping me on my feet.
“There is no time to nap anymore,” she joked.
Although the business just started welcoming the public’s daily orders, Tess is no rookie to the food service industry.
For more than seven years, she’s been operating her catering company out of her home. Until now.
“We decided to buy this place and open up to the public because I kind of out grew my little kitchen,” she noted.
Her new kitchen is located at 1030 Scott St., across from the Shevlin wood yard. Upon entry, customers are greeted by the sweet smells from the oven.
Handmade display cases—courtesy of Robert’s craftsmanship—show off a variety of candies, homemade goodies, fresh sandwiches and wraps, ice cream, and freshly-popped popcorn.
Everyone who stops by is shown a considerable amount of hospitality by the friendly staff of 13.
Even Tess’s son, Christopher, helps out around the store and chats with customers.
“It’s a family affair,” said Robert.
There’s a full take-out menu available upon request and a special is prepared each day. Some of the items available include perogies, cabbage rolls, wild rice soup, lasagna, ribs, stir fry, kabobs, wraps, cinnamon buns, and desserts.
The best part is everything is a homemade delicacy. Each morning, for instance, trays of steaming cinnamon rolls are pulled from the oven racks in time for the coffee crowd.
For the time being, they only are accepting take-out orders. And for anyone who requires a caterer, Tess’s Kitchen is the place to visit.
She offers competitive prices and many different dishes. Deliveries for larger orders are available upon request, as well.
The hours of operation are 7 a.m.-6 p.m., seven days a week.
