Press Release
The Muskie cross-country runners capped off their sensational season with a number of medal-winning performances in International Falls on Tuesday.
While the junior runners posted some season-best times in the Senior Varsity 5K race, it was the junior high (Grades 7-9) girls’ day to shine.
As they have done all season, the girls breezed to a first-place team finish by sweeping the medals and dominating the top 10.
Leading the way was Greta Fedoruk with gold (13:29), followed closely by silver winner Ashlyn Beck (13:42).
Right on her heels were bronze medalist Alexia Gate (13:42.4) and fourth-place winner Jaida Norris (13:42.8).
Fellow Muskie Emma Toriseva rounded out the top five (13:48).
In a final sprint, Grace Kowal was edged out and had to settle for seventh place (14:01).
Just out of the top 10, but still having a spectacular run, was Chloe Dolyny in 11th place (14:40).
“It was a great way to finish our regular season,” said coach John Dutton.
“The whole team is ready and excited to run at the NWOSSAA championships next Wednesday [Oct. 18] in Thunder Bay,” he noted.
The top runners from NWOSSAA will qualify to compete at the OFSAA championships Nov. 4 in Petawawa, Ont.
