OPP officers have arrested and charged a Fort Frances man with sexual assault following a victim reporting the incident to the local detachment.
According to a release from the Fort Frances Detachment of the OPP, on Friday, August 29, 2025, a victim attended the detachment building on Sunset Drive to report the sexual assault. Following an investigation, the OPP arrested and charged a 73-year-old male from Fort Frances with one count of sexual assault under Canada’s Criminal Code, Section 271.
The individual was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Fort Frances on September 15, 2025.
According to an OPP spokesperson, the police are currently unaware if there are any additional victims connected to the accused, but remind the public that there is no statute of limitations on sexual offences, and a report can be made to police at any time, regardless of how much time has passed.
“Investigators do not know if there are additional victims linked to this individual, but they are encouraging anyone who has been affected by or has been a victim of sexual assault to please come forward as it could help the investigation if there are,” said OPP Regional and Communications Advisor Erin McRea.
“If someone would like to report a sexual assault, they can call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or if they would like to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers is also an option at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). The important piece as well to remember is there is no statute of limitations for sexual offences. It doesn’t matter how much time has passed since the incident occurred, you are still able to report it to police.”
