Burger Wars takes over Scott St. on Friday

Staff

After months of preparation, the Burger Wars Street Festival will finally take place in downtown Fort Frances tomorrow afternoon and evening.

The 200 block of Scott St. will be closed from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. to create a safe and inviting atmosphere for people to enjoy the festivities.

Five food trucks/trailers will be slinging delicious food and competing to win your votes for top burger of the festival. The participating trucks include local favourite Talk on the Street Eatery, Zamburger, which is run by your local neighbourhood ice resurfacer owners, TNT Treats out of Ear Falls, and Mum’s Kitchen, “Home of the Deep Fried Burger” and Gropp’s Country Catering from Kenora will all be vying for burger supremacy.

Ticket purchasers will receive a ballot that enables them to sample the competition burger from each of the food trucks. While pre-sale tickets have sold out, tickets will be available for purchase in cash at Rainy Lake Square during the event tomorrow. If you don’t want to participate in the voting, food vendors will be serving up other tasty options, which you can buy from them.

Voting for best burger and best sauce takes place between 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Tasty burgers are not the only thing to look forward to tomorrow. A wide range of events has been prepared as well.

Rainy Lake Zen Life will get the action started in the square with a pound class from 10:30-11 a.m. This is an exercise class where participants use sticks to pound on exercise balls.

DJ 2-Tone will be spinning tunes in the square from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Thinking of Pinky takes over with some live music at 5 p.m.

There will be vendors in the square from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The UNFC is hosting kids’ activities all day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with bouncy castles opening at 3:30 p.m. and a variety of games and activities.

The Fort Frances Kiwanis club will be running a kids’ scavenger hunt from 4-6:30 p.m.

The events will all culminate with the crowning of the Burger Wars victor at 9 p.m.
