RUSSELL CYR

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Russell Cyr, 62, on January 25, 2026, at LaVerendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont., with his daughter Kayla, and niece Nancy by his side. Russell was born on April 23, 1963, to Louis and Rosie Cyr.

Throughout his life, Russell enjoyed many things such as planting trees, playing bingo, and family gatherings. Russell found enjoyment with taking rides to Kenora with Sally and getting KFC. While living in Kenora, Russell and Sally would spend time at the friendship centre, while getting involved in activities. Every chance he would get, you would often find Russell in the evenings at the bingo hall, doing what he loved best. You would always find Russell and Sally loving and spoiling their cats. Russell’s eyes would light up when he would get visits from his grandson, Grayson.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter Kayla (Jen) Ysen; grandson Grayson Ysen; sister Marcella Cyr; sister-in-law Doreen Hunter; nephews Dean (Nancy) Councillor, Randy (Charlene) Councillor Jr.; nieces Susan (James) Councillor, Tracey (Dwayne) Councillor, Shelley (Jamie) Cyr, Shantelle (Bruce) Cyr, Michelle Cyr; 24 great-nephews and nieces, and 20 great-great-nephews and nieces.

Russell is predeceased by his partner Sally Fox; parents Louis and Rosie Cyr; sister Roseanna Councillor; brother Raymond Cyr; brother-in-laws Randy Councillor Sr., and Clarence Malcolm; nephew Jeffrey Cyr; great-nephew Jordan Councillor; and great-niece Amy Cyr.

A traditional ceremony will take place at the Naicatchewenin First Nation Community Hall at 10 a.m. officiated by Elder Tommy Councillor on January 31, 2026, with a wake one hour prior, and luncheon to follow. Interment will follow at a later date with close family.

Pallbearers will be Dean Councillor, Sean Councillor, Ethan Adams, Trevor Smith, Tristan Smith, and Bob.

Honorary pallbearers will be all of his nieces and nephews.

The family would like to send a special thanks to Heaven, staff supports Crystal, Darcy and Bob for all their care with Russell, second floor nursing staff for their compassionate care during his short stay at the hospital. The longstanding relationship and support from the Dialysis unit will always be thought of with great gratitude.
