It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of John Lyons at his residence.
John was born Oct. 29, 1946 in Fort Frances, Ont. and lived all his life in the Rainy River District.
He had worked as a firefighter with the Ministry of Natural Resources and also had worked for a time at the Steep Rock Iron Mine in Atikokan, Ont.
He loved riding his “Harley,” and going to Bingos and pow-wows. He was known for his sense of humour and loved teasing people.
He also was an honorary member of the United Native Friendship Centre.
John will be sadly missed by his children, John (Kathy) Lyons, Rhonda (Byron) LeClair, and Rhea Lyons, and their mother, Bernadette.
Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Christopher Lyons, Andrea Smith, Joshua LeClair, Lhea Lyons, and Cheyenne Lyons; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Edith Lyons, Elaine Dokuchie, Beatrice Lyons-Calder, and Sheila “Kim” (Bruce) Matheson; brother, Harold Lyons (Gert); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his parents, Martha and John H. Lyons Sr.; son, Bradley Lyons; grandson, Jaret LeClair; brother, William “Billy” Lyons; sister, Yvonne “Eva” McCormick and nieces, Chantal Shypit and Tammy Dokuchie; and brother-in-laws, Tony Jordan, Andrew Dokuchie, George W. Calder, and Allan McCormick.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church at Couchiching First Nation.
Fr. Kris McKusky will officiate, followed by interment in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery at Couchching.
A visitation will be held Monday, May 26, 2014 from 7-9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
The pallbearers will be Rob Prosdocimo, Randy Hogan, Darren McCormick, Mike McCormick, Terry Jourdain, and Chris Matheson.
