On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, with family by her side, a beautiful soul, Eva Abbott / Collett, age 93, peacefully left on her final journey to her Heavenly Home. She will be met by her family and friends, who left before her.
Eva was born to Anna Louise Gorge and Arthur Rousseau, who immigrated from Paris, France, to Canada. She was one of eight children: Henry, Allice, Yvonne, Theresa, Roland, Emile, Arthur and herself.
Even after Eva had a family of her own, she cooked and cleaned, helping her father, when her mother was unable to.

Eva was a friend willing to help at any given time, with a big smile, a kind heart, gentle soul, positive attitude and she was always quick to laugh. Eva cherished her church and was a dedicated CWL member of St Mary’s. She often took communion to those who could not attend church.
Eva worked at numerous jobs through her life. She was well known as a Dental Assistant, and various restaurants in Fort Frances and Arnprior. She has instilled a hardworking ethic in every part of our family.
She was an avid quilter and Red Hatter, which brought happy times spent with friends, visiting and exchanging laughs and stories
Even up to her last days, Eva was a dedicated walker. You could often see her along the waterfront and catch a smile or wave. She usually walked alone, because no one could keep up to her. Some did try a few times.
She was famous for her rye bread and butter tarts, which will be missed.
Survived by children Raymond (Jan)Abbott, Lorraine (George) Elliott, and Dawn Hughes; grandchildren Raelle (Arran) Jones, Blaine (Erin) Abbott, Devon Abbott (Sheldon), Christie (Daryl) Scott, Melissa (Trevis) Penney and Brock Abbott; also surviving are seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents; husband Gordon Abbott; son Mark Abbott; daughter-in-law Jackie Abbott; son-in-law Herb Hughes; and second husband Dick Collett.
The funeral for Eva will be held on Thursday, January 15, at 12 noon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fort Frances, Ont.
