The McTavish Haunted Woods promises the scare all those that attend. Once again Weechi-it-it-te-win Family Services (WFS) is hosting this always popular event.
Gizhewaadiziwin Health Access Centre and Giishkaandago’Ikwe Health Services have partnered in with WFS.
The Haunted Woods is a free event taking place October 29 and 30, from 4-10 p.m. at the WFS Family Healing Program Site, located at 71 McTavish Rd. in LaVallee Township.
Light snacks and refreshing will be served.
There are 3 scare levels:
-Separate children’s trail for the little ones, designed to provide a safe and fun Halloween experience without the more intense scare elements found on the main.
-Soft scare from 4-6 p.m. Ideal for children and those preferring a milder experience.
– Hard Scare from 6:30-10 p.m. Features costumed staff and student volunteers bringing the woods to life with thrilling surprises.
“This kind of family-friends event bring our community together in such a positive way,” says Dean Wilson, Executive Director of WFS.
Parking is provided by Dennis Robinson Ltd. Tom Veert provides the parking lot lights.
Donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted for the local food banks.
The Lion’s Hunter Fundraiser Supper takes place November 8, 2025, at the Stratton Rec Centre. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Advance tickets only, $50 per person.
Penny tables, silent auction, 50/50 draw, live entertainment and much more makes up for a great evening. Tickets can be purchased online at westlions.ca, Telford Advent 271-2007, Kent Ogden, Cloverleaf Grocers or any West Rainy River District Lions Club Member.

The Dance Community Hall is hosting a pulled pork, french fries, coleslaw, and dessert supper.
This event takes place November 16, 2025, from 4-6p.m. Tickets are $30 a couple, $20 per person, $10 for youth age 6-12 years and 6 and under eat free. Tickets are available at Devlin’s Store, Cloverleaf Grocers, General Supply or at the door.
Monies raised will help with continued improvements on the parking lot.
The Emo Legion is hosting a Halloween Dance this Friday (October 31) with music provided by a CCR cover band. Music starts at 8p.m. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Legion Branch, Tompkins or Tompkins Outdoors.
The next Beer and Burger to be held at the Emo Legion is November 14th.
The St. Mary’s Parish CWL will host a Christmas Tea and Bazaar on Sunday, November 16, from 2-4 p.m. Admission is $5, $2 for children under 7 years old. More info to follow.
