I am writing you this Moos from the big smoke – Toronto! I am here for a couple of days to attend a few meetings at Queen’s Park. I will be speaking on things like Abattoir Tax Classifications, Breeder Loan Programs and other important things that are pertinent to the Beef Industry. It is a very rewarding opportunity to share real world experiences with the people that are working for all of us. It is small group of us that are attending the meetings but we hope we will be effective.
It has been a crazy busy time with meetings. It seems like we all realized that we have reached the middle of November and we only have about a month left to get a whole lot of work done and crossed off the list! I am nearing the end of data but currently I am struggling to find some notes (important notes) that I have misplaced or stored somewhere securely but way too securely. I hope I can get my research report to the printers this week but I am not sure I accounted for a couple days away.
I moved a few more panels and my maternity pen as I am hoping that my friends at Blackhawk Simmentals are able to come and clean out my shed. I have been using that part of my barn more and more for calving and the manure builds up. My own equipment won’t fit in the space; you need a skid-steer. I am super appreciative of their help and look forward to having that space ready again for the upcoming calving season. My brother and I are going to tackle a project in there once it is cleaned out.
My mom and I headed to the Laker game on Friday night. It was a great game with the Lakers coming off with a great win. If you are looking for something to do on these long winter nights head to these games! It is great hockey and we are really lucky to have this calibre of hockey so close to home!
I had to do a few extra chores so I could be away for a couple of days and not leave a bunch of work for my mom. The weather is really quite enjoyable and makes for a lot less work that we sometimes could be encountering. I am feeding my cows a fair bit from home and they are still able to find water without coming home. I delivered my last lamb to my two favourite girls at KB Ranch. They lost one of their sheep and found the one left lonely so my mom and I dropped off one of our bottle lambs on Saturday. We know she will be loved and have a wonderful home.
I hope some of you made your way to “Christmas in the Barn” this past weekend. I was so pleased with my purchases and found some great Christmas gifts! These ladies that host this event are incredibly talented!
