It looks as though we might be back to some decent weather. I am disappointed that we had such an early frost at home. I did cover some of my plants, but the pumpkin plants are done, and I was hoping they had a few weeks ahead of them yet. We went down to .9 at the Station Sunday morning but it didn’t freeze like it did at home. I ended up picking all my tomatoes, I only had a couple plants, but I did end up with a decent amount. I don’t even like tomatoes, but I am willing to share them with others. I covered some of my favorite flowers since I am hoping to have some girlfriends over later this month and if the weather is going to hold for a bit, I would like them to see how pretty they can be. I am not sure what is worse though, the heavy blanket on them or the cold nights. I managed to not cut grass this weekend, though there were a few places it could have been done I managed to keep busy enough with other jobs. Not cutting grass frees up a big chunk of time! Friday was a big day at home. Clayton had a few contractors over to get the new well hooked up properly for winter. It is going to be a bit different from what we had before, but we are hoping it will mean one less area to heat this winter. We also installed a new drinking bowl for the bulls and yearlings at the same time. We have some fences to fix and grass to plant but here’s to hoping that it is behind us for a while.
We had quite a load to take to the dump on Saturday as we cleaned up the old well house and leftover pieces from the old well area. Marlee was out so after we harvested the pumpkins we headed to the dump. There is no better feeling than getting rid of stuff that is not needed or not useful anymore. As for the pumpkin harvest, we are not nearly as successful, but we still had some! We will just plan for a better year next season! The thing that is doing well right now is house flies. I am continually trying to get rid of them. We did have the house sprayed but it doesn’t seem to be very effective with them. I cleaned Bettie’s litter box thinking maybe that would help and scrubbed the floor thinking maybe the floor was an attraction. I think maybe there are fewer, but it could just be the weather as well. We will see how this week is with nicer days. There is nothing more frustrating in the house!
Lexi has some type of skin irritation, and I am not sure what is going on. If you know me at all, if my dog has a problem, I am a wreck. Sunday night we gave her an oatmeal bath. It is supposed to relieve skin issues. I was able to get her a vet appt, so I am thankful for that. I am wondering if she didn’t get into some hemp nettle or something like that. Lexi hates water so getting her in the tub was fun, but she did seem to settle after a bit. Then my mom has been dealing with nasty back spasms and pain, Maddie (away at school) is dealing with kidney stones, my sister-in-law has been dealing with medical issues and this is all leaving me very overwhelmed! I know it could be worse and it will get better!
