Lock your vehicles: OPP

From the OPP

The Atikokan OPP has been responding to several calls for service involving mischief and thefts of opportunity from vehicles.
In the majority of instances, vehicles that are left unlocked are targeted and smaller items of value, including change in the cup-holder, is being taken.
There are a few ways to ensure you are not a victim of this crime of opportunity:
•ensure your vehicle is locked when you go to bed for the night;
•leave an outside light on so patrolling officers and neighbours can see the outside of your property, including your vehicle; and
•use a recording device such as a trail camera or home security camera as both a deterrent and an investigative aid for police should this happen to you.
Members of the public are urged to report these thefts so police can make an appropriate response.
If you see someone in your yard or around your vehicle, call the police using 9-1-1. If you find you have been a victim of this type of crime, call 1-888-310-1122 to make a report.
If you have information regarding a potential suspect, notify your local detachment or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
