Opened on June 28, 1965, the three and a half mile long bridge marked the completion of Highway 11, linking Fort Frances to Atikokan, the Lakehead, and the rest of the country. The completion of the highway saw a cost of nearly $20 million for the final 85-mile section. On this date, Highway 11 spanned from Rainy River all the way to Toronto, for 1,056 miles. Named after William Noden, M.P.P. for the area, the completion of the highway was viewed as an economic life-line, providing new opportunities for growth to the region.
