Take the time to do the job safely

Recently, an individual was doing some remodelling in his home. He had finished stripping the wallpaper, and was getting ready to change a light fixture.
Since he was the only one home at the time, he left the light switch in the off position.
But before disconnecting the old light, he thought to himself, “This is not a proper lockout. I would never allow this at work!” So he decided to turn off the proper switch in the breaker panel.
While hooking up the light, his son came home from school. As he walked into the bathroom to see what his father was doing, he automatically flipped on the light switch.
Needless to say, the father was glad he had taken the time to shut off the power at the panel.
The father shared some valuable advice–all of us have to continuously remind ourselves that it only takes a few extra minutes to do the job the safe way.
We can save ourselves from pain–and potentially a fatal injury–by following proper procedures; and it also sets a good example for our children.
This made me remember a safety quote that has been around for many years: “No job is so urgent that you can’t take the time to do it safely!”
Remember, if you never need what you learn about personal safety, you have lost nothing. But if you never learn what you need, you may lose everything . . . your family and your life!
