Sow the right seeds in 2000

Well, here we are. In the year AD 2000, Anno Domini 2000, in the year of our Lord 2000. Some of us wondered what the changeover might bring.
With many still scratching their heads about the outcome of “Y2K,” let’s make it a year to remember nevertheless. So much will depend on what we do with the year.
What are we expecting in AD 2000? What are we hoping for? What are we planning for? Some hope for a better job. Some expect to finish an academic program so they’ll have a better change for that all-important career. Others plan to buy or build a new home.
With “Y2K” concerns behind, are we looking ahead to 2000 with eager prospects and high hopes?
Why not take a few moments early in this year to consider the laws of sowing and reaping that are at work in our lives–whether we acknowledge them or not. What we put our time, energies, and money into this year can be said to be the seeds we sow in 2000.
The Word of God declares that “. . . a man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good unto all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” (Galatians 6:7-10).
Consider your relationship with God early in 2000. The Bible teaches that you can have peace with God only through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1; Acts 4:12). Settle this issue right away and don’t allow anyone to keep you from making this most important of all decisions.
Then determine in your heart to sow seeds of righteousness this year and to “do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”
Join up with a church, if you haven’t already, because the church is the very Body of Christ in this world (Colossians 1:24), and it is also the pillar and foundation of the truth (1 Timothy 3:15).
Like a newborn baby, grow up in the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ and seek first the kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33)
“Test me in this, says the Lord Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit, says the Lord Almighty.
“Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land, says the Lord Almighty.” (Malachi 3:10b-12).
Therein is the promise of God towards you for this year 2000. It can be a year of bright hope and blessings–for the individual–and for our whole community if we will but sow the right seeds.
Open your Bible sometime tonight and read some of these texts for yourself. Then get ready for the blessings to follow in 2000.
