(NIPIGON, ON) – On October 7, 2020 at approximately 1:07 p.m. members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Nipigon Detachment responded to an incident where a male was located with vital signs absent at a residence in Nipigon. The male was transported to the hospital for medical treatment, but he was pronounced deceased once at the hospital. 

The deceased has been identified as Storm Borg, 24 years old of Nipigon, Ont. The body was transported to Thunder Bay where a post mortem took place on October 8, 2020.

Members of the OPP North West Region Crime Unit and the Forensic Identification Unit (FIS) along with Nipigon Detachment members are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death with the Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario (OCCO).

ARSON CHARGES

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police(OPP) and the Kenora Crime Unit have charged a person as a result of a fire that occurred in the spring.

On Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at 1:26 a.m. members of the Kenora OPP received a report of a fire in the 200 block of First Street South in the downtown core. Police responded immediately with Kenora Fire and Kenora Emergency Medical Services.

As a result of the investigation Police have charged a 39 year old Kenora woman, with Arson Disregard for Human Life..

The accused was released to attend the Kenora Courthouse on October 22, 2020 to answer to the charges.

DRUG CHARGES

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) K-9 Unit, the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) and the Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) have charged two people with drug related charges in the City of Kenora as a result of a traffic stop.

On Monday October 12, 2020 at approximately 4:30 p.m. Police conducted a traffic stop for a Highway Traffic Act violation on Valley Drive in the City of Kenora. Upon further investigation two people were arrested and charged.

As a result of the investigation, a 31 year old Kenora man has been charged with: Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Methamphetamine; Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid(other than heroin); Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000; Carrying Concealed Weapon; Possession of an Identity Document X2; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000. And 32 year old Kenora woman has been charged with: Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Methamphetamine; Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid(other than heroin); Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000. She was held for Bail and REID was released to attend the Kenora Courthouse on November 26, 2020 to answer to the charges.

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – On September 17, 2020, officers from the Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) arrested three people in relation to drug trafficking in the municipality.  

Throughout the investigation, police located and seized approximately $8,000 in Canadian currency and suspected illicit substances, which include cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, and morphine, as well as drug-trafficking paraphernalia. 

After investigation, the following charges have been laid:

A 22 year old Dryden man has been charged with: Trafficking of a Schedule I Substance – Crystal Methamphetamine; Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine; Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon; and Failure to Comply with Release Order X2.

A 21 years old woman, from Sioux Lookout, has been charged with: Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000. A 51 year old Sioux Lookout man, has been charged with: Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Crystal Methamphetamine; and Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Morphine.

Weekly report

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to 174 calls over the long weekend between Friday October 9, 2020 and the morning of Tuesday October 13, 2020.

Police responded to a variety of calls on the weekend and laid 20 charges under the Criminal Code, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and the Highway Traffic Act. Some of the calls Police attended were;

• 3 Assaults

• 2 Break and Enters

• 13 Traffic Complaints

• 12 Liquor Licence Act

• 1 Impaired

• 4 Mischief

• 5 Theft

• 6 Suspicious Person

• 12 Police Assistance

• 1 Sudden Death

• 2 Drug Offences

The citizens of Ontario have other ways to report a minor crime. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding the public about their online reporting system as an alternative to having an officer attend a scene for a minor incident. Citizen Self Reporting (CSR) rolled out across the province in 2014 and it is an efficient system as a means of reporting certain minor incidents and crimes. 

The OPP’s Citizen Self Reporting is an easy to use internet reporting tool that can be accessed from a computer or mobile device and sent directly to the OPP anywhere, anytime.

In an effort to enhance our service delivery, this online reporting system allows the public to report specific crimes such as lost property, stolen license plates, theft from vehicles, driving complaints, and property damage without an officer having to be dispatched to the scene, provided there are no suspects, injuries or the incident is not an emergency.

The applicable calls for service which fall within the CSR online reporting parameters include:

Stolen tools in Kenora

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are looking to the public to assist in locating stolen property.

On Monday October 12, 2020, the Kenora OPP received a call that power tools were located in the bush behind Evergreen School on Brinkman Road. Police attended and located a contractor’s enclosed trailer that had been broken into with approximately $6000 worth of tools that had been taken.

Kenora Street Crime and the K-9 Unit attended and were able to locate approximately $5000 worth of the tools, but a Milwaukee tool kit worth approximately $1000 is still outstanding.

Police are requesting the public’s assistance in locating a missing Milwaukee bag.
