A fire at the Couchiching landfill was the source of smoke seen in the Fort Frances area last night and early this morning. The Couchiching Fire Department was called to the scene between 8:30-8:45 p.m. and there until about 12:20 a.m. All that remained this morning was a small patch of still smoking garbage. The fire was caused by the burning of materials at the landfill, which is prohibited.
