Outbreaks in schools, churches


Over the weekend, Calvary Baptist Church in Emo announced on Facebook that a congregation member had tested positive, with several others reporting feeling unwell and waiting test results. In-person service were suspended as a precaution.

On Saturday, two school staff members were reported positive for COVID – one at Donald Young School and one at Sturgeon Creek Alternative Program. All close contacts are being notified.

Last week, the Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU) was informed of new positive COVID-19 results in Dryden. All of the new cases are employed at the Husky Truck stop in Dryden. Any customers of the Husky Restaurant or Husky gas bar between March 31, 2021 and April 4, 2021 should monitor themselves for symptoms. If anyone develops symptoms of COVID-19, self-isolate immediately and arrange for testing.

Ealier this month, two staff in the Dryden Walmart tested positive. One case was the UK strain. It is unknown if the local cases are Variants of Concern – all positive results are sent for testing to identify strains.

NWHU will update the public if it is determined that there is an increased risk to the community. The public is reminded to practise prevention measures and not gather with anyone you do not live with.
