The weather was beautiful and the grass was green for the official opening week at Heron Landing Golf Course, on Couchiching First Nation. Following provincial guidelines, the course opened its doors and fairways to the public, in time for May Long Weekend. The rules are a little different than previous years. Groups need to call a day ahead to book a tee time, only one group is allowed in the club house at a time, cleanliness protocols are in full swing, and golfers are encouraged to keep their distance from each other. Bookings have been brisk since the opening, said course manager Ashley Bruyere, and the new protocols put in place have been manageable.
“They aren’t challenging, but it’s keeping everyone very busy,” she said “There’s always something to do.” To book a tee time, call 274-5678. Due to COVID-19, the course is only open to band members and residents from the local region.
