A tree on Front Street was snapped in half during Sunday night's storm—an example of the many broken trees and downed power lines, as well as some property damage, throughout Rainy River District. Even though some rain was in the forecast for Sunday, the high winds and torrential downpour was not what district residents were expecting. A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect that evening, as Environment Canada tracked a cluster of storms from the Dakotas and Minnesota that eventually made their way northeastward and through the district at roughly 1:30 a.m. Monday morning. Emergency crews began to work immediately to restore power and clean up the debris.
