McKinnon plucks medals at ‘Crocus’

Karli McKinnon was the most decorated of the Aquanuats after the Manitoba Marlins’ Crocus Invitational last weekend.
The 13-year-old St. Francis student won seven medals, including gold in the 400m freestyle and 50m butterfly events.
She also captured medals in the 200m IM, 100m and 50m back, 100m free, 100m fly, and 200m free.
Rachel Dutton, 12, earned four medals (three silver/one bronze) in the 400m IM, 400m free, 100m free, and 200m free. She also set an Aquanauts club record in the 800m free with a time of 11:07.2.
Meanwhile, Alex Parent, 12, won bronze in the 100m fly while Jessica Lowey took bronze in the 200m IM.
Overall, the group of 11 Aquanauts finished sixth out of 20 clubs from Northwestern Ontario, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan in team points with 152.
They were second overall among clubs which brought a maximum of 15 swimmers, finishing just behind the Saskatoon Gold Fins.
“It was a strong meet for everyone,” said Aquanauts head coach Roman Ramirez. “Most of our swimmers [who moved up a level] know what they have to work on.”
The Aquanauts will get another chance to make a splash at their annual “Spring Express” meet here this weekend.
Action gets underway at the MemorialSportsCentre at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
