One-time local resident, Brad McRae, squared off at the Canadian Open Skeet Championships at the Hamilton Gun Club last week-end.

In the process of this multi-gauge competition (12, 20, 28 and .410), he won the 12 gauge, shot 98/100 in 20 gauge, 96/100 in the smaller 28 gauge and a spectacular 95/100 diminutive .410 bore with its very small number of pellets.

Brad visited our club last summer and finished that night with a 25/25. Certainly an inspiration to FFSC skeet shooters!

Tuesday June 29 locally saw two newcomers, led by Jackson Tucker, with 19,19,18. Jeremy McGuire, always a solid shot with 21,22 and Zac Manty, now of Rainy River shot 23 and 19. Ted Brockie shot 18 and was chased away by the summer heat. Connor Dent was solid with two quick rounds before hastening off to his Grade 12 Grad. Zac brought an aspiring newcomer, who adapted quickly to the fast-moving edge-on “clays”, which offer a target only 4.25” wide.

Skeet is always open to newcomers. The cost is $5/round to cover the cost of clays. To find out more about the program, visit www.ffsportsmensclub.com, e-mail contact@ffsportsmensclub.com or call Brad Houghton at 274-6183.
