Stop feeding the geese: town

An unusual amount of goose droppings along the La Verendrye Parkway has prompted the town to ask that people stop feeding the birds there—it’s costing taxpayers money.
Operations and Facilities manager Doug Brown said it has come to the town’s attention that in recent weeks, the walkway has been drawing many more Canada geese than in the past.
And more geese means more of a mess.
Town staff are all but certain that the geese have been sticking around the riverfront because some people have been feeding them.
Brown said the town is starting to get complaints.
While crews have been deployed crews to clean up the mess left by the geese, Brown added the town doesn’t have the manpower to stay on top of it, especially when they have more pressing duties to do.
Brown noted that while seagulls—and the mess they make—are a fact of life during the summer here, it’s very unusual to see the Canada geese covering the walkway with feces at this time of year.
“It never used to be an issue,” he remarked.
Brown asked whoever may be feeding the geese to please stop.
