Riverside declares leak of confidential patient data

Riverside Health Care recently concluded an investigation into a privacy breach that was the result of a staff member inappropriately accessing patient electronic medical records. The inappropriately accessed personal health information was not disclosed or otherwise used by the staff member.

Steps were immediately taken to prevent further inappropriate access to personal health information. A report has been submitted to the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario. Patients whose personal health information was inappropriately accessed are being notified.

Riverside Health Care takes its obligations and responsibilities as a health information custodian very seriously, including its responsibility to prevent any inappropriate access, use and / or disclosure of personal health information.
