The province is expanding the use of service plates for boat, snowmobiles, and off-road vehicles.
Transportation minister Jeff Yurek recently announced changes that will make it easier and more efficient to transport boats, snowmobiles, and off-road vehicles (ATVs) to customers and recreational shows.
Past governments expected dealers to buy a new trailer plate for each boat, snowmobile, or ATV that they moved.
Now one service plate can be used for multiple deliveries.
“We heard loud and clear from small to large business owners across Ontario and have fixed this problem,” said Yurek.
“This is a great example of how we are cutting red tape to make government work better, simpler, and faster for small business and consumers.”
“The availability of this new service plate will permit marinas and boat dealerships across Ontario to legally move boats and trailers while supporting consumers’ needs,” said Rick Layzell, CEO, Boating Ontario Association.
“Boating Ontario gratefully acknowledges the efforts of Ministry of Transportation staff, under the leadership of Minister Yurek, in the removal of this red tape as we strive to grow our $4.03 billion Ontario industry,” he added.
“The expansion of how service plates can be used removes an unnecessary burden on snowmobiling businesses,” echoed Ryan Eickmeier, executive director of the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs.
“This is a measurable move that will open up new customer service opportunities, improve the ability to showcase and exhibit products, and will definitively help grow the $1.7-billion snowmobile industry in Ontario,” he noted.
The provincial government is committed to cutting red tape and reducing burdens to help lower the costs of doing business and support economic growth throughout Ontario.
Ontario’s Open for Business Action Plan has set a target to reduce regulatory red tape by 25 percent by 2020 to help business keep, grow, and create good jobs.
